[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text disable_pattern=”true” align=”left” margin_bottom=”40″]Scott and Bobby spent a week in Sarasota, Florida to screen Becoming Fools, and document the work of our local response partner, Night Life – an innovative youth outreach center that offers hope to at-risk youth through mentoring relationships. AMG International (our global response partner) joined us at the event to present the opportunity to sponsor at-risk children in Guatemala. Over 200 people attended the screening at Covenant Presbyterian Church, and engaged in discussion after the film. The event was a great success and we’re grateful for the opportunity to share the story![/vc_column_text][mk_image src=”https://athentikos.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Photo-Mar-29-6-11-44-PM.jpg” image_width=”800″ image_height=”350″ crop=”true” lightbox=”false” frame_style=”simple” target=”_self” caption_location=”inside-image” align=”center” margin_bottom=”40″][vc_column_text disable_pattern=”true” align=”left” margin_bottom=”0″]Immediately after the team arrived at Tampa International Airport, it was imperative that Bobby introduce Scott to an authentic Cuban Sandwich shop called Brocato’s. It’s been a staple in the Marko family and as always did not fall short of bringing back the memories and delicious food that Bobby and his family grew up with in Tampa.
From there, the two headed straight for Sarasota.
The first order of business was to visit Joe Davis’ youth outreach center Nightlife to do some filming and check out how this organization reaches out to the Sarasota at-risk youth community and develops relationships to give these young people a chance to better their situations and experience the gospel. The team was amazed but also thankful for Joe’s ministry. These youth certainly have a resource in Nightlife that they may never get anywhere else in the area. From homelessness to broken homes, tattooed and rough on the edges, Joe and his staff are able to break down some of the barriers these kids put up and show them the love of Christ they may not get elsewhere. It was a blessing to spend some time with these youth.
Afterwards, the guys were able to get some local seafood and experience some sights and sounds only Florida can offer!
The guys were able to visit some family and friends while in the Sunshine State, some of them they haven’t seen in decades! It was great for them to catch up with loved ones but then it was back to work.
The screening was held at Covenant Life Church there in Sarasota. It was a blessing to see some of the local people step up and help out. Initially we had very few people to help with tickets and the merch table but a mom, some daughters and their friends who love running merch stepped right up and almost literally took over running the front house. Through the chaos and the business of the night no one caught their names but hopefully we will find out soon to thank them personally but they were truly a blessing!
It was great to see a diverse crowd at the showing. We got some great responses to the film and we could see, following the screening, that people were very much inspired.
